Along with learning about the disease and the transplant information, Lisa also learned about the expenses involved. The cost of a double lung transplant is overwhelming, and Lisa is asking for our help.
Lisa was born in Statesville, NC and grew up in Oceanside, CA. In early 2000 she moved to Springfield, MO to be closer to her family. Lisa had spent many years in the sales field but when she was laid off in 2010 due to the economy she decided to go back to school and get into healthcare. In May of 2016 Lisa graduated with an Associates of Science in Radiology from SBU/Mercy and went on to study computed tomography (CT). Lisa had just finished her clinicals when she was diagnosed. During school Lisa worked, as she still does, as a Patient Access Rep at Mercy in the Emergency Trauma Center. Unfortunately, Lisa has to put her new career on hold until she is healthy again. Lisa, and her partner of 7-1/2 years, Tanya, reside in Springfield with their clowder of cats, most of which were neighborhood strays needing a home.
The double lung transplant will save Lisa’s life, but the expenses are out of her reach. Lisa has insurance, but it does not even begin to touch a huge portion of the expenses. The expenses include travel to St. Louis for tests, extended follow-up visits, and medications. Lisa and a caregiver will also need to live temporarily near the hospital post-transplant and the anti-rejection medications can be $1200 per month.
To help with the financial burden of Lisa’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in her honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law, are held by Help Hope Live in the Midwest/West Lung Transplant Fund, and are administered by Help Hope Live for the transplant-related expenses only. Please consider a contribution.
Thank you for your prayers, your generosity, support and love.
Gratefully,
Tanya Stites, Lisa’s best friend and partner in life

Kathy Greene, I feel like you were a part of the last sale of the day, the baseball cards that put us up over the top ~ thank you! Lynn, I could not find you on Facebook, but your energy and spirit were wonderful~ so glad to meet a new friend. So many people donated and came and spent money, and left their change for donations. I feel blessed beyond belief. And a huge thank you to Tanya Stites, who, gets to see one-on-one how high my stress level can go and is still always there beside me.
Hello! Last week I had my exercising pulmonary fitness test done with a Respiratory Therapist. This week they delivered my oxygen supplies. That was kind of a big deal. Thankfully, right now, I just have to use it with exertion. I can feel the difference when I have it on!
My first appointment in St. Louis is at Washington University and the Idiopathic Lung Disease Clinic on April 28th. They will be doing some further testing and this is the necessary step to becoming a Barnes Jewish patient. Barnes Jewish is where the transplants are done for this area of the United States.
I am very thankful that I have my SUPERHERO Kayla Sanders Vess on my side! She had a double lung transplant 3 years ago, and is now training for a triathlon! You can read her story on the HelpHOPELive website also. She is a shining example of success due to her hard work and vigilance and a true God send to me. I am also thankful for all the people who are saying prayers for me and helping to support me in so many ways. My heart is full with gratitude.
