Family and friends of Hans & Kellie Mendenhall are raising money to pay for uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation.
They have chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live in part because Help Hope Live assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility to the full extent allowed by law for donors. Donors can be sure that funds donated will be used only to pay or reimburse medically-related expenses. To make a tax-deductible donation to this fundraising campaign, click on the GIVE button.
Hans, 31 years old, had one kidney removed when he was nine months old due to a Wilms’ tumor in the kidney. His cancer was considered stage one and chemo therapy followed the surgery. He was declared cured of the cancer, but in high school, too much protein was discovered in his urine. This was his first sign of kidney failure.
In December 2017 his nephrologist referred him to the Ohio State University Comprehensive Transplant Center. On Friday, Feb. 16, his wife, Kellie, gave him the most precious gift of life, a kidney.
They were just married in August and have three children; Kami, Kailen, and Silas. Hans worked up until the time if his transplant as a gas technician for Waste Management at Suburban Landfill in Glenford, Ohio. Kellie is a property manager for Borror managing properties in Zanesville & Lancaster. Hans is a graduate of Tri-Valley HS & Hocking College. He is a past master in the Masons & an Eagle Scout. Kellie graduated from Crooksville High School & Zane State College. They are both members of Coburn United Methodist Church.

Thank you for your support!
It has been more than two months since Kellie donated to Hans the gift of life, a kidney. They have both done remarkably well, praise God. The surgery was harder on Kellie than on Hans. Hers was more invasive. Hans' failing kidney was not removed and Kellie's kidney was placed near his bladder, rather than where kidneys are naturally located. Additionally, Hans went to the hospital anemic and was given two units of blood, and Kellie left the hospital anemic because they did not give her any blood. Kellie had the pain of the air that was blown into her during surgery as it worked its way out during the lowing weeks. That was not an issue with Hans. Kellie went back to work after three weeks and Hans plans to return to work soon. He continues to have blood drawn twice/week so they can tweek his meds if needed. They have been able to reduce his immuno-suppressant drugs twice, which is good. Although they told us that it isn't unusual for transplant patients to be hospitalized 2-3 times during the first year, Hans has been able to stay well so far! We appreciate all of the pray warriors during this process and we treasure your continued prayers. May God bless you as he has blessed Hans and Kellie!
Hans continues to have good weekly check-ups to the OSU Transplant Center and Kellie will go for her 4-week check-up next week. We thank you so much for your support, especially your prayers!
Another good check-up today for Hans at the transplant center. He'll get his staples out next week.
Hans, Kellie and our families are so thankful for your prayers and contributions. Surgery went excellent for both Hans and Kellie. You all are praying so hard we can feel the prayers, our cup overflows!!
God Bless
Kellie
Hans & Kellie are both doing great after the transplant. His urine production is amazing them (positively!). They got to see each other briefly in recovery. The surgeons are pleased.
The pre-op appointments are completed. The final blood cross match was again negative! Kellie and Hans have all of their instructions to prepare for their arrival at the Wexner Medical Center at 5:00 AM on Friday. Surgeries should be completed by 11:00 AM. Looking forward to sharing more good news soon after that! Thank you, prayer warriors! And thank you, Jesus!
PRAISE GOD! Kellie will be donating a kidney to Hans on Friday, Feb.16!!! Continued prayers appreciated. Kellie will have her final physical on the 14th.
