Mel Abel is an “all star” on and off the field. He grew up in Stroudsburg, PA, graduated from Stroudsburg High School and participated in football, basketball and track and was awarded a plaque on the hall of fame there. He also played football all four years while attending Lock Haven University graduating with a physical education degree.
On July 9th, 2013, Mel was diagnosed with kidney failure and went on dialysis. In spite of this, he strives to stay 100% active. Even though he goes for treatment 3 time a week he has maintained a regular exercise routine by jogging, hiking or walking at least 3 times a week. Mel would like others to know that you can still remain active and stay in shape with a disability. He also enjoys meeting up with his friends for their weekly Wednesday breakfasts.
Stay tuned for our paint and sip fundraiser at the Creative Canvas in Stroudsburg and hike-a-thon on the Appalachian Trail.
Family and friends of Melvin Abel are raising money to pay for uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation.
Melvin has chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live in part because Help Hope Live assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility to the full extent allowed by law for donors. Donors can be sure that funds donated will be used only to pay or reimburse medically-related expenses. To make a tax-deductible donation to this fundraising campaign, click on the Give button.
