My name is Tommy Westmoreland and I’m 59 years young. Born in Roanoke, Virginia, I have worked all my life in numerous jobs such as house-mover, mechanic, house and business remodeler, and am proficient in carpentry, plumbing, mechanics, tiling, roofing, and general construction.
I’m married to my middle school sweetheart and I am blessed with 4 grown children; Michele Lee, Crystal Marie, April, and Emily, 9 grandchildren; Javion, Kalen, Courtney, Anthony, Jonathan, Cameron, August, Samuel, and Josiah, and 1 great grandchild, Chase.
My passions are playing and enjoying music, motorcycling, tinkering, and making people laugh. I live in Vinton, Virginia with my wife Linda and my fierce guard dog, Bambi, a feisty Chi Wa Wa.
My life was looking up until the summer of last year when a medical checkup determined that I had diabetes. During my medical activity to deal with that, further testing discovered that I also had serious liver problems due to hepatitis and two spots of cancer. Things just went from bad to worse! I was put on a strict diet and physical regimen as I began medication. There were several trips to the hospital followed by two rounds of chemotherapy.
At first it seemed like I was on to the road to recovery and my family, friends, and I were optimistic about my recovery. Then I received news that changed my world. MY LIVER WAS NOT RECOVERING, I MUST GET A LIVER TRANSPLANT, AND I WAS LIVING ON BORROWED TIME!
As my condition worsened, I have been unable to work regularly, do my regular outdoor activities, and have become more “homebound” which is very frustrating for an active, independent, and can-do guy.
Of course the bills never stop coming! I need your help as Linda and I prepare for the liver transplant. Expenses related
to a lifesaving liver transplant are very high and even with medical insurance there are a great many out-of- pocket expenses. Co-pays, deductibles, travel to and from the transplant center, temporary relocation to be near the center at the time of the transplant surgery, and the life-time expenses of anti-rejection medication all adds up to huge expenses.
We have sought the help of Help, Hope, Live, a 35 year trusted non-profit organization that provides community fund raising guidance to patients and their families, and enables tax deductibility for all donations to the full extent allowed by law. Help, Hope, Live assumes fiscal responsibility of the funds raised and apply the donated funds to reimburse and pay for medically related expenses.
Please help Linda and I successfully get through this life-threatening and very difficult time by making a tax-deductible donation and participating in fund-raising events being planned that will be posted on this site. Keep checking on us at this campaign page and looking at our posted updates.
Thank you and God Bless!
