In 2016 Mitch was diagnosed with End-stage renal disease and was placed on dialysis. Because of this diagnosis he is unable to hold a full time job and is currently receiving disability benefits. In November 2019, Mitch was placed on the kidney transplant list. Because of his three and a half years on dialysis he is high on the list and can be called any time to receive his kidney.

Family and friends of Mitch are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation.
