Korageous Heart - Dekontee Traub

My sister, Kormasa Amos - a Korageous Warrier

My sister, Kormasa Amos has always been a force to be reckoned with. Her fearless spirit was something I timidly admired from a distance because I knew that it was that one defining trait that distinctly separated us. While I sought comfort in being the shy and quiet little sister, it was evident that my sister’s outspoken and charismatic charm could light up any room. Her presence alone was undeniable. From her passionate and provoking words of wisdom spoken from piecemeal pages of her poetry journal to alluring an audience with her spiritual and soulful dance ballads, you could not help but to want to draw closer to this free-spirited individual.

Growing up with Kormasa, there was never a dull moment in sight. She allowed her imagination to make the best of memories of our childhood as we would endlessly create games from anything that we could gather around the house to use as a new makeshift prop for one of our many adventures. Countless belly-aching laughs were shared between sisters as we re-enacted our own version of music videos like “Have you seen her” by M.C Hammer around the living room table or tirelessly play our favorite game of “buffet hold it” with simply a balloon and our willpower to avoid its contact with the ground. Unfortunately, those laughs frequently ended in tears as Kormasa always had the brightest idea to take her games up a notch and incorporate a new level of dangerous elements. Often these ideas fizzled out just as quickly as they ran rapidly off the top of her head due to their low success rate, leaving me the victim of another idea gone wrong. The crazy part was that is what I absolutely loved about her. The bumps and bruises that came with being her honorary stunt double were the badges of bravery acquired from my sister. It was her boldness that taught me to take chances in life, even if there are any inkling of doubt. Her courage showed me that it was okay to be defeated, because I could still rise and let my downfall be my come up. Her confidence embodied an untouchable demeanor that always left you wanting to be her because she was without a doubt fearless.

Till this day, Kormasa Amos continues to keep that fire of fearlessness ignited throughout her journey with pulmonary fibrosis. Against every odd thrown in her direction, from multiple evaluations, endless labs and unwanted rejections, her fearlessness still leaves many to believe that she is truly a korageous warrior. I genuinely believe that this opportunity will provide many others to fight just as ferociously as my sister. She has set a path of tenacity that is not for the weak at heart and through her fight I know that she will come out a warrior!
