Korageous Heart - Sayee Campbell

For 21 years I’ve got to share this earth with this trailblazing soul. Someone who has shaken the core of the Liberian community of Providence with her activism. I believe that I am blessed the most to have a mentor, leader, and confidant all in one extraordinary person. She is a fighter, a mother, a dancer. Her love of dance taught me not only to use my gift for myself but to service others. She taught me how dance can heal, tell a story, and just be a moment of expression. We’ve shared the stage more than I can count and I think that’s the part that I miss the most.

But, Kormasa also an adventurer. I remember the first time she took me on the train to the Boston Children’s Museum, I was so scared. Why take the train if we have cars? Anyway, we walked through the city and I even got to visit China town. On the way back she let me stand on the train holding the pole believing I was a “big girl." She always believes in me and sees the things I can’t see in myself. I’ve watched dance with resilience, through the pain, circumstances, and obstacles, I know it won’t be long before we dance again.
